OlliOlli 2: Frustration in a can

There is one sport that has always attracted video game designers and developers to try and emulate. Skateboarding. We have seen two main series attempt it over the years; each with a different take on how it might work. The first was Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater; a series that focused heavily on the more elaborate and outrageous tricks that skate boarders pull off during competitions especially. It began to get a little extreme though; too far detached from the real activity of skating for most people. The second series was Skate; which went the other way.

OlliOlli was a series that is heavily influenced by the arcade games of the late 80s and early 90s; focusing primarily on accumulating a good score. The game is two dimensional and flows from left to right; while also tasking you on completing several goals during each level. It’s lightning fast and extremely frustrating; truly separating the men from the boys.
