Steep: Our thoughts

Steep isn’t a game that had a great deal of pre-release press so we didn’t exactly know what to expect when it was released but we’re s glad we took the plunge and added it to our list of games to review and here are our thoughts.

First things first, Steep is a game whereby you can seamlessly zip down mountain ranges via snowboards, skis, wing suits, or paragliders with a quick click of a radial menu. It’s an open-world exploration game but you’re exploring this world in style. The beautiful scenery such as valleys and snowy mountain ranges make for a spectacular backdrop but the gameplay doesn’t let this one down at all. As an example, the time trials are one of the best features and this is because you’re able to go up against tricky rocky paths littered with obstacles or seductively smooth mountains where you can glide in style. Then of course, there’s the freestyle events which give you some of those all important experience points for general showmanship so there really is something for every kind of adventurer in this game.

Any negatives?

Yes and it all has to do with identity. Steep is such a weird game, like really there are no others similar to it in any way. This means that it is never really sure what it is, so this vagueness will put many gamers off. That said, it’s all about adventure and if you can think of it as an adventure game with smooth gameplay and stunning visuals, you can easily smooth out the cracks. We’re sure many gamers who try this will keep coming back for more and some gamers won’t care that it’s ever so slightly vague because it’s s fun to play and isn’t that what a great game is all about? From us, we give Steep a well deserves 8 out of 10.

Here’s the trailer to give you a better idea on what to expect:
