Halo: Combat Evolved – Potentially the best game ever

Posted on April 16, 2020 at 8:56 am

In 2001 we were gifted a real gem of a game: Halo: Combat Evolved. Expectations were rightly high with the Halo franchise taking the world by storm. So why was this game recently listed in the top 10 for the best games of all times? Well, here are a few of our reasons why we think it’s deserving of its place…

It was one of the first shooters where the aliens actually fought back. This sounds rather basic and simple, but it’s true. It was no longer a breeze and you had to work hard to survive, which would certainly be the case if a world like this ever did exist. Playing Halo today, especially when on the Legendary mode or setting, you quickly have to get to work. It’s amazing how quickly those chattering, cackling creatures can completely destroy you. Halo has helped blossom the genre of space shooters, but it’s the first game of its kind for sure – released at a time when the idea of a first-person shooter on a console was fairly laughable. The impact it has had on gaming is huge.

Jurassic World Evolution is not far away now

Posted on April 1, 2018 at 10:40 am

Jurassic World Evolution is coming to Xbox and PS4 consoles very soon, and the trailer has now had just short of half a million views! That’s a lot considering it was only released a few weeks back but it’s a sign that we are to expect big things from this game.

It’s up to you to take control of operations at Jurassic Park. You are able to build your own Jurassic World, bioengineer new dinosaur breeds, and construct attractions, containment, and research facilities. Every choice you make in the game leads to a different path and some stunning challenges arise when ‘life finds a way.’ It’s so rewarding to se your park come to life and it makes you feel as though you’re a part of the popular movie franchise, except this time it’s more real! We think Jurassic World Evolution will be an extremely popular game and there will be plenty of Jurassic fans lining up for this one when it hits the shelves.

Anthem: What we know so far

Posted on November 20, 2017 at 7:55 pm

Anthem is an action RPG/adventure currently under development. Presented at the E3 2017 conference, the game has impressed fans with photo-realistic graphics and a gameplay that seems really neat.

Release date: The game does not have a final release date yet. That said, the release window is 2018.

  • EA ordered the game from Bioware Studios. So it was during EA’s pre-E3 conference, the EA Play, that the announcement was made via a very short teaser. Then it was not until the Microsoft conference in California that we were able to see the gameplay.
  • Launching on XBOX One X, the game should be in 4K at 60 fps, as was the promise of the CEO of XBOX.
  • The game will use the Frostbite engine, which is used by Star Wars Battlefront 2, Battlefield 1 and FIFA 18.
  • BioWare Edmonton had already teased the game at E3 2014.
  • EA intends to feed the game for almost 10 years! With 4 years of development, the publisher wants to make the project really profitable.
  • The players will have to use (in solo or in COOP) the faculties of their armors like the jetpacks and the speed of sprint, as well as the high jumps.

Can excessive gaming be bad for you?

Posted on October 5, 2017 at 3:11 am

Many enthusiastic gamers worry whether their excessive gaming habits can cause them any long-term problems, and fortunately there’s a lot of information circulating online about potential issues. If we were to look at many case studies into negative medical problems that stem from gaming, there are some of the following:

  • auditory hallucinations
  • enuresis, encopresis
  • wrist pain
  • neck pain
  • elbow pain
  • tenosynovitis
  • hand-arm vibration syndrome
  • repetitive strain injuries
  • peripheral neuropathy
  • obesity.

That’s quite overwhelming to think, but these are potential issues that can stem from extreme video gaming. It’s not secret that video games should not be number one on your priority list of activities, and you do need to make sure you’re socialising, exercising and developing real life skills. Completing a gam can seem like a big achievement, but it may prevent you from achieving a real achievement in life! So put the controller down and go outdoors when you’re playing games a bit too much!

Steep: Road to the Olympics Expansion Pack

Posted on August 22, 2017 at 1:19 pm

Oh we do love an expansion pack. It’s amazing how one expansion can completely change the dynamic of a game making it ten times better than it was before. That’s what we’ll be hoping for when the Steep expansion pack comes out. It will be called Road to the Olympics and released during early December, just in time for the festive period. This add-on will, as the name suggests, take you into an experience tied around the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. This will give you the opportunity to represent your country with pride in the snowboard, slopestyle, skiing and halfpipe competitions. There is a small trailer showing what the add-on will bring to the game but unfortunately we’re unable to confirm the cost of the add-on, so stay tuned for more updates. That said, there is talk that Steep Season Pass holders are going to get it for free, which would be an amazing Christmas present!

Injustice 2; Gaming review

Posted on July 22, 2017 at 1:30 pm

There have been a lot of changes to the game however many aspects of it still retain the same concepts and mechanics that made the first installation (Injustice: Gods among us) a hit across the gaming world.

The best aspect of the game is without a doubt the single player mode. It has a variety of options like the Multiverse challenges, the campaign itself, king of the hill, unranked and ranked fights. The online play is also really smooth and has quite negligible lag.

The story mode pretty much retains the same plot and pits Gotham’s dark knight against the last son of Krypton once more with the latter still retaining his role as the villain. However, there is a twist to the tale with the welcome additions of Supergirl and Brainiac.

The developers have really outdone themselves this time, and there are vast improvements with regards to graphics. The animations are quite lifelike and the backgrounds are well detailed. Transitions between fights and cut scenes are also seamless and make the gameplay so natural.

Super Mario Odyssey on the Nintendo Switch

Posted on June 15, 2017 at 5:45 am

The New Super Mario game is set to be released on the Nintendo Switch in the coming months, and if the latest photo releases are anything to go by, it’s going to be fantastic!

For the first time, it seems as though Super Mario will be taking to the street. We’re not talking Grand Theft Auto style here by any means, it’s still a fun family game. ‘New Donk City’ is just one of the worlds you can enter and explore, and it’s rather like New York City, but who could have possibly guessed that?

What’s great about this new Mario game is that you’re able to explore these huge environments and there are so many different levels to try, whilst the only goal really is survival! If you think you can keep Mario safe in these new environments, then this could be the game for you, and it’s perfect for the whole family to enjoy.

Rime: Cute and Quirky

Posted on May 31, 2017 at 10:34 am

Rime is a lovely lone adventure game that’s beautiful to play. It’s really easygoing so it’s great for amateur gamers and people of all ages but the simplicity of this game can actually wear you down. The premise is pretty straightforward, you are a lone ranger who wakes up on a magical island after a shipwreck, and have to solve a variety of puzzles to figure out what happened.

As you jump, run, climb and swim around this beautiful island, you face some simple tasks like collecting keys and moving crates, but the challenges get harder as you proceed. The problem was, the puzzles don’t have that level of addictiveness that you come to expect, and after playing this one we were more infatuated with the scenery and the island than the game itself. It’s not a game you can play for hours at a time but it’s a nice escape from hardcore gaming and it’s a real nice family game.
