Heroes of the Storm: DOTA for a new age

Now I am a huge fan of DOTA 2 – or Defense Of The Ancients 2 if you want to be formal about it – but I have always understood why some people are not as keen as me. There is a massive learning curve involved to begin with; over one hundred heroes each with upwards of 4 abilities and 6 item slots (with over three hundred potential items to fill each one) it can be a lot to take in and even now, after way too many hours in the game, I still do not have a handle on everything.

Then, after you do feel like you grasp it, there’s the simple act of playing the game and executing strategies. It’s difficult, at the higher levels especially you come across high levels of skill and co-operation and can often find yourselves on the end of a horrendous beating over the course of an hour. Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard’s attempt to move away from DOTA. It’s much faster, removes the items completely and is far more focused on team based objectives.
